Hey there, savvy internet operator! I don’t know how you managed to stumble upon the echoing halls of this lonely website, but a warm welcome to you regardless.
Hello?
For those of you not in the know, this site is home to four comics artists–myself, Jen Vaughn, Morgan Pielli, and Sam Carbaugh. We’ll all be blogging here, mainly as an outlet for stuff unrelated to our individual webcomics.
I’d like to start the party with a doodle I did in honor of one of my favorite non-comics obsessions: Giant Monsters; specifically, a badass called Daimajin.
This is Daimajin, and he is awesome.
No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to get away from all the giant monsters that populated the imagination of my childhood. In addition to being utterly consumed by dinosaur mania from the age of four onward, my mother made the mistake of introducing me to Godzilla at about the same time. To date, I’ve seen 25 of the 28 Godzilla movies in existence. You would think that this is more than enough – but no, it isn’t. Slowly but surely I’m watching every flick in the Kaiju genre I can find; the Daimajin trilogy being one of the best series I’ve come across so far. I’ll refrain from going into any sort of review for right now, but you can read more about it here. Suffice it to say that the combination of the samurai and giant monster genres make for a pretty entertaining combo.
This will probably not be the last giant monster I draw for the Rarebits site.
Later,
J
